Welcome to the King’s College Rugby Club website. The club runs two teams, which both offer a chance to represent the university at a competitive level. King’s rugby is one of the founding members of the RFU and both teams play in high divisions of the BUCS league and compete against many other top universities. The highlight of the King’s Rugby season is The London Varsity Rugby Match played against UCL. This prestigious event is played in front of large crowds and has a great atmosphere and all members of the club are encouraged to aim to make the varsity squad. King’s are the reigning champions, having won the 2011 match in arguably one of the best and most exciting games in recent memory. In recent seasons the Club also has also won the Gutteridge Cup, a competition between other University of London teams. A few seasons ago the club took on a professional coach, John Graves (formerly backs coach for Esher RFC) who has helped develop and improve the club’s standard of rugby – which is clearly shown in the 1st XV’s progress up two BUCS divisions in 3 seasons. The club prides itself on its friendly environment and strong social life. It is well known both within and outside of the university, with great themed events such as Viking night, Curry night and Pub Golf night. A number of old boys always return for the formal Christmas and Summer dinners as well as various friendly games including the Rob Tagg Memorial Match. I hope many of you will be interested in joining King’s Rugby, we welcome anyone, no matter what their skill level, degree, age etc. Get involved, you’ll make some great friends and have some good times. Stay up to date by joining our 2011/12 Facebook page and look for regular updates, especially as Fresher’s Week approaches. Duncan Castle
